Jack Straw insists on lifting the veil - Guardian 06/10/06
Dear Sir,
At last we are beginning to see Labour for what they are, an essentially elitist party now playing to the racist crowds in the gallery. No wonder Blair is worried about a BNP revival when it is adopting the same attitudes and giving BNP credibility. In Britain, everyone is free to worship as they wish within the law. If Muslim women prefer to wear the veil, as Sikhs their turbans and Jews their skull caps, it is no business of Jack Straw. I presume he is preparing to alter his dress each time he enters one of the Muslim ghettos this government has created. No, Britain needs to encourage Muslims into the British way of life, not punish them into it. That way leads to more distrust and resentment. Good, rounded education, excellent front-line services, worthwhile jobs, and genuine care are the sure way to make all minority groups feel part of Britain, rather than separate from it. UKpopdems will care for British minorities as for all Britons, as befits a great country, compassionate and welcoming.

David Cameron Hugs a Hoodie - Daily Telegraph 03/10/06
Dear Sir,
As leader of the United Kingdom Popular Democrats - UKpopdems, the feedback I get is that 99 per cent of hoodies are ordinary, decent boys and girls. Maybe they are following a fashion or perhaps trying to look harder than they really are in order to avoid trouble, not get into it. Who knows what else David Cameron stands for, but he is right on this one. But where Britain should not surrender to soft options is with violent crime, which many people feel is out of control. UKpopdems policy is jail for every violent offender and, actually, jail for violent aggression too, which is overlooked by liberals. Prison works. It works because it removes the violent offender from society and makes the streets that bit safer for a while. Look at our policies to see how prisons will be built and staffed, and how crime will be much better detected and reduced.
Yours,

Osborne finds common ground on taxes - Daily Telegraph 04/10/06
Dear Sir
I'm not at all sure that the British people want tax cuts as such. They do want better front-line services. Let's face it, by far the majority of voters backed parties that they knew would increase taxes. A tax cutting agenda did no good for Tories last time and Cameron knows this. Tax cutting needs to be directly tested with the people. It's their money so let them decide. A new party UKpopdems - United Kingdom Popular Democrats, promises a democratic vote on this issue, asking whether to cut or raise taxes, and by how much. Other parties should take note. It's the obvious path to take.

'No Policies' Cameron - Daily Mail 05/10/06
Dear Sir
Either Cameron doesn't have policies, or he's hiding them in fear of the all powerful and successful labour spin machine that has kept Blair in office for so long. Both are wrong. Politicians are already seen as the most ditrustful of people. Now each is not showing their hand like a bunch of Mississipi gamblers. So, we should trust them more for this? Look, everyone in Britain knows what they want from a government. It's the parties job to find out what this is and publish. This confirms to the people that they are being listened to and have a real choice. UKpopdems believe all parties should publish detailed policies well before an election. This way, there's no fudging and everyone knows what they should be getting. In addition, UKpopdems want these independently monitored so no new legislation can be introduced before the public has their say.

Boss's High Pay, Home-Grown Inequality - Guardian, Will Hutton 03/10/06
Dear Sir
Yes, there's inequality here alright. The amazing thing is that labour has done nothing about it in office. What about looking at that story, Will. As leader of United Kingdom Popular Democrats - UKpopdems, I'm with LibDems on taxing very high earners more, but not their way. No, we propose a high earners tax that goes directly to the poorest in British society, but that bosses can mitigate by: employing more British people and paying them more; employing those who are discriminated against; investing in British companies; spending on British goods (or percentage); investing in conservation measures; donating to approved charities; This way, high earners can directly benefit ordinary British people. That's better than a tax going straight into a national pot and getting eaten up by bureaucracy. You can see it for yourself at ukpopdems.org.uk

A Prime Minister Unfit for Heroes - Daily Mail 02/10/06
Dear Sir
Whatever the rights and wrongs of Iraq and Britain's role in it, the biggest shame for Britain is how our brave troops are treated. Poor wages, poor equipment and badly looked after, especially at low rank. It's not surprising recruitment is falling. In the United Kingdom Popular Democrats - UKpopdems, we believe the pay of the lowest ranked soldiers should be doubled, and doubled again on active service in war zones. We also believe in making sure our armed services have the best equipment available, from home and abroad. We believe this will enable us to double front-line resources. Our men and women are prepared to put their lives on the line for Britain. They deserve the utmost respect, not the penny pinching we have seen from successive governments.Yours,
UKpopdems - United Kingdom Popular Democrats
